Brighton man arrested on suspicion of terrorism offences
Officers are reassuring residents there is no immediate threat to safety

A man from Brighton has been arrested on suspicion of Islamist terrorism offences on Tuesday morning (July 13th).
The 53-year-old remains in custody after being detained as part of an investigation by officers from Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) and Sussex Police.
He was arrested on suspicion of encouragement of terrorism under Section 1 of the Terrorism Act 2006.
Superintendent Rachel Swinney of Sussex Police said:
“Today’s operation demonstrates that we, along with our partners in CTPSE, take seriously reports of all forms of toxic ideology which has the potential to divide our communities and threaten the safety of our people.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank those within the community who support and assist officers during investigations of this nature. By reporting information to us as soon as possible, we are able to act promptly and ensure for the welfare of the public."
Supt. Swinney went on to say that there is not believed to be any immediate threat to the safety of local communities, and urged the public to refrain from speculation.
"However, we understand that operations like this can often cause concern therefore we, along with our partners, will be in the community over the coming days, to answer any questions or concerns.
