Brighton Half Marathon returns today
The event had been postponed twice this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic
The 31st Brighton Half Marathon will finally be taking place this afternoon, following two cancellations earlier this year.
The popular event will see runners pass a host of Brighton landmarks along the 13.1 mile journey. These include Brighton Marina, The Royal Pavilion and The West Pier.
It's being organised by The Sussex Beacon charity, which supports people living with HIV across Sussex.
Bill Puddicombe, the Chief Executive of the charity, said: "It's absolutely fantastic to be back after the last year and a half...it's just brilliant to be able to stage the event and welcome back all the runners.
"We've got the biggest and best Sussex Beacon group running in the race that we've ever had. They've raised something like £50,000 for us which is brilliant. We believe over the course of the event that we'll raise something in the region of £1,000,000 for different good causes.
"It's our biggest fundraising event of the year. We ask runners to raise £250, that's about the cost of a night in our hospital. So each time a runner hits that target we're closer to being able to provide services for people who need us".
