Brighton graffiti fines scrapped
City council pause penalties
Small independent businesses in Brighton and Hove will no longer be fined for failing to remove graffiti from their properties.
Brighton and Hove City Council previously told shop owners they would receive a penalty notice if they failed to remove tagging on their building by a certain date.
The plan, under the former Green administration, caused uproar with small retailers saying they should not be given a fine as they were the victims of criminal damage.
But with Labour now at the helm, the city council has paused the penalties.
The city council said it would continue to work with small businesses on how to best deal with repeated tagging.
