A Brighton charity want to be a model for other hospices as they've become the UK's first LGBT+ hospice to specialise in HIV.

The Sussex Beacon are working with the NHS to provide inclusive care and specialist end-of-life support.

The charity's CEO, Rachel Brett, said: "We have lots of anecdotal evidence of of people having very poor experiences in in healthcare settings.

"They get excellent care in their HIV care, but sometimes perhaps when they go to care home.

"And then the understanding of what it means now to live with HIV is not really there /

"So we've had people who've who've been told to stay in their rooms, who've been given disposable and plates and cutlery, by staff who may think that you can catch HIV off the tableware and through touch as well.

"We know that people living with HIV when they have sometimes have other treatments, particularly around COVID, people were double gloving to give them their vaccinations.

"These are people who are on the antiretroviral medication and there is absolutely no risk of of transmission, and obviously a very poor understanding about how HIV is transmitted anyway."
