Two boys have been charged with causing grievous bodily harm following a serious assault in Felpham, West Sussex.

Emergency services were called to a field near the Southdowns pub in Felpham Way at around 8.50pm on Friday, 16 May after a 17-year-old boy from Worthing was seriously attacked.

The teenager was airlifted to hospital and is now in a stable condition.

After a search of the area, police arrested two boys from Bognor Regis, aged 15 and 17, on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm. A third boy, also 17, was later arrested.

All three were known to the victim. Both 17-year-olds were charged with causing grievous bodily harm and appeared in court on Monday, 19 May. One appeared before Brighton Magistrates’ Court and the other at Crawley Magistrates’ Court. Both were remanded to secure accommodation pending further hearings. The 15-year-old was released on bail while the investigation continues.

Sussex Police are still investigating the incident and have asked anyone who witnessed the assault or has footage from the area at the time to come forward.

District Commander Chief Inspector William Keating-Jones said: “This was an isolated incident that is not believed to have posed a threat to the wider community.

“We understand the impact that crime and anti-social behaviour have in our communities, including in Bognor. Our officers are working hard alongside partner agencies and we have deployed additional proactive and specialist police resources to not only combat crime and antisocial behaviour in the area but also to provide reassurance, catch offenders, and prevent further offences being committed.

“We continue to encourage anyone who is impacted by these issues to report it to us.”
