Plans to trial a booking system at six West Sussex rubbish tips have been approved.

The system, which is expected to come online around March 15 was given the nod on Friday (March 4th) by Deborah Urquhart, cabinet member for environment.

It will be used for six months at the household waste recycling sites in Bognor Regis, Littlehampton, Shoreham, Worthing, Crawley and Hop Oast (Horsham).

Residents will be able to book one visit per week up to 14 days in advance, with a set number of slots allocated per half hour.

While booking should be up and running in the week commencing March 15, the system will not go live until March 29.

Councillors have until the 15th to call-in the decision for further discussion.

A notice issued by the county council confirmed that, during those six months, the scheme could be varied, expanded or even suspended if things went wrong.
