UPDATE: A27 reopens after bomb squad called out

The stretch was shut after unexploded ordnance was found in water

A stretch of the A27 in East Sussex has reopned after a potential unexploded ordnance was found in an area of water nearby.

The three-mile stretch was closed east of The Drusillas roundabout near Polegate after the item was discovered in water at around 5pm on Thursday (July 11th).

A cordon was put in place by police while explosives ordnance experts were called out.

The device was detonated in a controlled explosion and the stretch was reopened at around 7pm.
