Bomb squad called to Selsey beach after ordnance found

A controlled explosion was carried out on Monday morning

The Coastguard was called out at around 07:28 to the top of West Beach, Selsey on Monday morning.

The 'ordnance' item was found, photos were taken and sent to E.O.D. (Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team).

Once they arrived on scene, the beach was cordoned off and closed.

A controlled explosion was carried out safely by the E.O.D. at around 10:45, the beach safely reoepend and the Coastguard returned to the station at 11:15.

Ordnance comes in all different shapes and sizes and can still be higly explosive.

If you come across anything suspicious or unusual on the beach, please don't touch it and dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
