A body recovered from the Sussex coastline is believed to be that of a man from Hove who went missing over the weekend.

Emergency service teams carried out a major search operation for 69-year-old Gareth Jones, who had last been seen with his brown cocakpoo dog on Saturday (January 16th).

Coastguards from Shoreham, lifeboats, a rescue helicopter and members of Sussex Police were all involved in the operation, which was scaled back on Sunday evening.

Sussex Police said a member of the public alerted police at 8.56am on Tuesday (January 19th) to the body of a man on the beach at Tide Mills, near Seaford, which is believed to be Gareth's.

His family have been made aware.

There are no suspicious circumstances and the coroner’s office has been informed.

Gareth’s dog was also sadly found dead on the beach in Brighton on Monday (January 18th).
