Sussex Police charge former vicar with historical sex abuse from 1990s

Ifor Whittaker will appear in court next month in relation to the incidents

A former Anglican vicar from East Sussex has been arrested and charged by Sussex Police in relation to historical sex offences.

Ifor Whittaker, 80, was taken into custody by the force on counts of rape and gross indecency with a boy who was under the age of 14.

The incidents were said to have taken place in the 1990s, when the victim - who is now a man in his 30s - was a young child.

At the time that the incidents took place, Whittaker was using the alias Father Colin Pritchard and had been preaching at St John The Baptist Church in Sedlescombe in East Sussex.

Police have remanded Whittaker in custody in connection with the offences. He will appear in court on June 10th in relation to the charges.
