More than 440,000 people have now had their first COVID-19 vaccination in the first phase of the roll out across Sussex.

Figures released by the Sussex Health and Care Partnership show that more than 90% of people aged 70 and over in the county have now received at least one dose of the jab.

In addition, all of those in the four priority groups have been offered the vaccine, in line with the Government's target of Monday (February 15th).

Across the country more than 15 million people have now had their first vaccination.

Adam Doyle, Sussex ICS leader, has praised health teams in the county for reaching the milestone:

People age 65 and over and those who are clinically vulnerable are now eligible to receive their vaccination.

The next two priority groups for the vaccination are starting to receive invitations and are now able to book their appointments through mass vaccination centres, pharmacy-led services or GP-led services.

The next two priority groups also contain those under the age of 70 who are clinically vulnerable - including those with chronic respiratory disease, cystic fibrosis and severe asthma - and unpaid carers.

Meanwhile, vaccination services in Sussex have come in for praise from some of the leading figures involved in the vaccine roll-out.

Hardik Desai, who is leading the pharmacy led service in Ticehurst, was praised for his efforts by Prime Minister Boris Johnson in Monday's government briefing.

As part of the latest national broadcast, the Prime Minister thanked Hardik for all of his work to rally a team of volunteers to set up the pharmacy led service in the East Sussex village.

The service is being run from the village hall and is one of three pharmacy led services in Sussex, and one of 262 in England.

Meanwhile, the Vaccines Minister Nadhim Zahawi has released a video praising the efforts of a Storrington GP surgery which has now handed out 10,000 jabs.

The Glebe Surgery was one of the first to set up during the rollout and has been offering jabs to those living in the village and surrounding areas, including Billingshurst and Steyning.
