All Sussex care home residents set to receive Covid-19 vaccine by Sunday
Health teams have given an update on their progress
More than 8,000 care home residents in Sussex have now received at least one dose of the coronavirus vaccine, according to the county's health teams.
The Sussex Health and Care Partnership has said that staff have been 'working tirelessly' to reach the Government's target of having all care homes vaccinated by the end of January.
As of Tuesday (January 26th), 8.381 residents had been administered the jab at 454 care homes for older people in the county - equating to 90% of all those in the county.
Older people in care homes are one of the top priority groups for the COVID-19 vaccine due to their high risk from coronavirus.
The vast majority of those who are yet to receive the jab have either been diagnosed with, or are currently recovering from, coronavirus.
In a statement, the Sussex Health and Care Partnership said that vaccination teams have a 'clear schedule in place' and would revisit anyone yet to receive the jab 28 days after they tested positive.
A spokesperson added:
"In Sussex, we have one of the highest numbers of nursing and care homes per capita across the country and so this is a significant undertaking but thanks to the dedication and commitment of our vaccination teams from GP-led services and Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust we are making excellent progress towards achieving the government target."
