A29 flood alert issued after weekend of heavy rain
Some parts of West Sussex saw 40mm in a matter of days
After a weekend of flooding, a further alert has been issued to drivers using the A29 in Pulborough on Monday (November 16th).
The River Arun continues to rise after 40mm of rain fell in the space of two days.
It's led to the Environment Agency issuing a further warning for the area from 1.30pm on Monday, which may cause difficult driving conditions and even make the road impassable.
In their notice, the Agency said water will be 'extensive' in fields and could affect gardens and properties in the Lower Street and Swan Corner areas near to near to Swan Bridge in Pulborough and Bridge Cottages in Greatham.
"Water will be near the tops of the banks around Houghton Bridge, Amberley, but no impacts are expected in Arundel or Ford. The rivers upstream at Pallingham and Fittleworth are now starting to peak, but river levels will continue rising in Pulborough until 6pm on Thursday.
"No further rain is forecast until Friday, which should allow river levels to fall from Tuesday. River levels will take a week to fall to more normal levels.
"Flood protection products are recommended to be installed in Pulborough, if you have them. Our pumps in Pulborough are running to help reduce the risk of flooding."
A number of other alerts remained in effect for West Sussex on Monday morning following the weekend's wet weather, for coastal areas from Emsworth Harbour to Littlehampton, as well as on the rivers Arun, Adur and Rother.
