A section of a duel carriageway in East Sussex will be closed for the entire weekend whilst essential maintenance takes place.

The A27 eastbound carriageway will shut between Ashcombe and Southerham roundabouts from 8pm this evening (1 March) till 6am on Monday (4 March).

There will also be a lane closed on the opposite carriageway for safety.

National Highways said the maintenance is subject to weather conditions so work may be rescheduled to the weekend of the 22 March.

They said work includes repairs and improvements to the road surface, sensors being replaced under the carriageway, road markings being refreshed, and work to waterproof a bridge.

During the closures, a diversion will be in place via the A270, A23, A259 and A26.

For drivers wanting to join the westbound A27 at the Southerham roundabout from the A26 (Cuilfail Tunnel), please follow the eastbound diversion to the Beddingham roundabout and return.

There will also be weeknight closures on both sides of the A27 between the Southerham and Beddingham roundabouts from Monday 18 March to Wednesday 27 March between 8pm and 6am each night.
