Drivers are being urged to avoid part of the A23 in Sussex as a "substantial clean-up operation" continues following a collision.

The major trunk road was shut between the M23 and B2114 near Handcross at around 2pm on Tuesday following a collision involving two lorries.

Sussex Police and National Highways attended the incident, reporting significant debris from concrete blocks falling off one lorry, and damage to a lamppost.

Traffic heading southbound is being diverted via the A264, A24, and A283, before re-joining the A23 at the A27 junction in Brighton.

Road users heading northbound are being diverted along local roads.

Sussex Police are urging drivers to avoid the area, adding they hope to reopen the road this evening.
