20,000 expected for Worthing fireworks display

People as far away as Seaford and Littlehampton can usually see the display

Worthing's firework display returns tonight and it's expected upwards of 20,000 people will be in attendance.

The event was cancelled last year due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Road closures will be in place as Marine Gardens will be shut to traffic from Steyne Gardens to West Buildings from quarter to seven, ahead of a 7.30pm start.

It's a free event but people are encouraged to donate to the Worthing Lions who have organised the event.

The group supports vulnerable people across the town and any money donated tonight will be put straight back into the community.

Kevin Hawkes from the group said: "We're estimating 20,000 people but we can't always see what's further along the coast because we get people from Seaford right to way to Littlehampton viewing them.

"There's plenty of room on the beach, if you think you're being overcrowded or you don't like it you can move along the beach a little bit. You'll still get a great view."
