17-year-old boy jailed following Brighton stabbing incident

A 17-year-old boy has been sentenced for seven years in jail for a knife attack in Brighton in which three people were injured.

A man and woman, both in their 20s, suffered serious injuries after being attacked in Gardner Street at around 11pm on January 12th.

They were with a friend, an 18-year-old woman, who was also physically assaulted.

The teenager, who is from the city and can't be named for legal reasons, was charged with wo counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent, actual bodily harm, possessing an offensive weapon in a public place and for assaulting a police officer.

Appearing at Lewes Crown Court on Wednesday (November 6th), he was sentenced to four years' imprisonment and will spend a further three years on license.

DC James Botting from Sussex Police said:

"He was pursuing them with intent to harm them and cause serious injury in what was an unprovoked and mindless act."

Another 17-year-old boy, who was arrested at the same time as the perpetrator an hour after the attack, was released with no further charge.
