Woman seriously injured in A3 crash

Surrey Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious collision on the A3.
The incident involved a single car leaving the northbound carriageway at Compton at around midday today (8 October).
It occurred north of the Compton slip road, with the driver airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
A spokesperson for South East Coast Ambulance Service said: “I can confirm we were called to reports of an RTC on the A3 Godalming by-pass shortly after midday today.
“Ambulance crews attended and were joined at the scene by the air ambulance service.
“A woman was assessed and treated at the scene before being airlifted to hospital in London in a serious condition.”
In a statement Surrey Police added: “The southbound carriageway has now re-opened but the northbound side remains closed so drivers are asked to avoid the area.
“We are carrying out enquiries to establish the circumstances of the collision and anyone who witnessed the incident, or anyone with any dashcam footage prior to the incident, is asked to contact us on 101 quoting incident reference PR/P21216689.”
