A woman who lived in East Hampshire and passed away in 2021 has left a stunningly generous amount of money for a local charity.

Debbie Donald, who lived in Petersfield, left her entire estate to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

Debbie left enough money to fund up to 54 emergency missions. She retired from a long career in the emergency services in 2011.

"She was a friend to everyone in this organisation."

Before she died, Debbie penned a tribute to the charity, saying, “I feel so proud to be part of this amazing and critical service. And I feel so strongly about contributing in whichever way I can.  I know that the gift in my Will ensures this amazing service can keep flying for the benefit of those that need them most.”

Keith Wilson, the director of income and engagement at the air ambulance said "DEbbie was one of our volunteers... she was so, so passionate, she was liked by everyone, she was a friend to everyone in this organisation.

"But really it was that passion for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. That passion for being part of this outstanding charity that saves lives day and night."

He also emphasised Debbie's commitment to the cause.

"She'd be there at events, she'd help out in the office. She would go out to Cubs, Scouts, to beavers, to brownies, to schools telling them the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance story. If there was any task that needed to be doing, Debbie was there."
