Woman dies after colliding with bridge in Lightwater

A woman in her twenties has died and another has been seriously injured following a collision in Lightwater earlier this morning.

A Ford Fiesta Zetec collided with a bridge on the A322 near Broadway Road.

The female driver was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, officers have informed her next of kin and they are being supported.

The passenger of the car had to be freed by fire crews and now she has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police are asking drivers to avoid the area and to travel via alternative routes as the road will remain closed in both directions whilst officers carry out investigations.

Traffic is currently being diverted along Guildford Road through Lightwater.

Police are appealing for witnesses who may have seen the collision, or anyone with dashcam footage who may have been in the area at the time.
