Shoppers in Waverley can now offer extra support to their local high street - by ordering from them online.

Waverley Borough Council has partnered with Click it Local to create a new virtual high street service.

Independent shops and businesses across the borough can take part including local market traders, artisan producers and micro-businesses.

It means residents can buy from local shops and suppliers in one place, make a single payment and have their goods delivered the same day.

Waverley Borough Council said while its retailers have worked very hard to comply with regulations and ensure that customers can visit their stores safely, it offers a solution for those who cannot go shopping in person, or want the convenience of being able to order from home.

Councillor Liz Townsend, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development said:

"The pandemic and lockdowns have been devastating for Waverley's independent businesses, whilst major supermarkets and online retailers have thrived.

"We know that given a choice, people prefer to see the money they spend stay within the local economy, but it's not always easy. What really excited us about Click It Local, was that by combining simple ordering, payment and same-day delivery, it allows independent local businesses to compete on a level footing with the online giants.

Customers now have an easy and convenient option to get whatever they need, and have the added confidence that they are helping to support local businesses across the borough."
