Surrey Police are warning us to take extra care following a recent spate of thefts of Rolex watches in the county.

The suspects are believed to be women posing as charity workers.

The force says they use distraction techniques such asking for the time or to sign a petition - then removing the watch from their victims' wrist.

They have issued advice on how to stop it happening to you:

⌚ Cover your watch with shirt/jacket/coat sleeves out in public

⌚ Pay attention to your surroundings. Who might be watching or following you?

⌚ Not every thief needs to use force to steal from you. Keep your distance from strangers

⌚ Genuine charity workers won’t mind you verifying their identity before signing petitions or donating money

⌚ Record lost or stolen watches on Watch Register: https://www.thewatchregister.com/

Officers say if you are concerned that someone is falsely representing themselves as a charity worker - ask them for identification.

If they cannot provide any or cannot verify who they are, call 101 and raise your concerns.

In an emergency, always call 999.
