Visitors to The British Motor Show urged to not travel by train
The show falls on the same days as two planned rail strikes
People travelling to The British Motor Show over the next four days have been asked to try and use alternative methods of travel where possible.
The event in Farnborough is taking place from the 18th to the 21st August 2022 at the Farnborough International Expo Centre.
South Western Railway (SWR) is urging all customers only to travel by rail if absolutely necessary between these dates due to the planned industrial action.
Severe disruption on the network during the RMT strikes on the 18th and 20th means that there will also be delays and further disruption on the following days.
Parts of the network will be closed entirely and the few trains that are running will be less frequent, but busier than usual.
SWR Head of Communications Mark Lever said:
"Farnborough train station will be served on the strike days and the days after, but there will be fewer trains than normal and they are likely to be very busy.
"So, we're asking customers to only travel is absolutely necessary across the whole strike period and to make sure there's space on those trains for key workers and others who really need to get where they need to go.
"If you can, please travel by alternate means and if you have to travel by train, please make sure you check the times of first trains and last trains and allow a little bit of extra time for your journey.
"We're really sorry to those that are impacted."
Due to the impact of the strike days, people are also urged only to travel if necessary on Friday 19 and Sunday 21 August, when first trains will start much later than usual across the network and are likely to be very busy.
Staff at Network Rail and more than 2,100 SWR members are set to take strike action on Thursday 18 and Saturday 20 August, causing severe disruption.
SWR’s reduced timetable will run from 07:15 to 18:30 on the 18 and 20 August strike days, and will consist of:
• Four trains per hour in each direction between London Waterloo and Windsor & Eton Riverside via Hounslow
• Two semi-fast trains per hour in each direction between London Waterloo and Basingstoke
• Four trains per hour in each direction between London Waterloo and Woking
• Two fast trains per hour in each direction between London Waterloo and Southampton Central
Trains will not stop at all the stations on these routes. There will be no SWR services across the rest of the network.
