One week on from a stabbing in Tongham police are continuing to ask for witnesses to come forward.

It comes as a man remains in hospital in a serious condition, after it happened in an alleyway near the Cricketers pub in Oxenden Road last Friday night (15 October) soon after 9pm.

Police say they believe the offenders and victim were known to each other - and they have stressed the incident was an isolated one.

Detective Inspector Jo Horner said: “There has been a considerable police presence in the Tongham area over the last week.

We have completed a number of enquiries but there is still more work to be done to help us to understand exactly what has happened.

“We would like to reassure the local community that we are doing everything we can to secure evidence and ensure that the offenders are brought to justice.

"We would also like to stress that we believe the offenders and victim were known to each other, and that this was an isolated incident.”

DI Horner added: “We are still appealing for witnesses, particularly anyone who may have been driving past at the time and has any dashcam footage of the incident, or who was walking in the nearby area, to come forward as soon as possible as this could be extremely helpful to our investigation.”
