The tallest rollercoaster in the UK could remain shut for two weeks.

Hyperia at Thorpe Park in Surrey closed one day after it opened on Friday due to 'unforseen circumstances'.

The £18 million ride is described as as the tallest and fastest rollercoaster in Britain, exceeding speeds of 80mph and ascending to heights of 72 metres.

Thrill-seekers queued for hours on Friday (24 May) to take their turn on the new ride.

Now Thorpe Park have released the following statement regarding the closure of Hyperia:

"As you may have already seen, Hyperia is currently unavailable. Despite our best efforts we are unable to commit to re-opening Hyperia before Saturday 8th of June.

"We will continue to do everything in our power to open the ride earlier and will ensure all the latest updates are provided via our socials and website.

"We are really sorry for the disappointment we know this will cause.

The rest of Thorpe Park remains open as normal.
