A theatre in Surrey has been awarded nearly £3 million in funding from Surrey County Council.

The Yvonne Arnaud, which was built in 1964, received the funding as part of the council's 'Your Fund Surrey' Project.

"We're just delighted"

This money will towards funding the theatre's 'Play Your Part' campaign; their capital project that’s needed to substantially improve the accessibility and sustainability of the venue, and maximise spaces for creative learning, outreach, and community group use.

The theatre's Chief Executive and Artistic Director Joanna Read said "It's been a lot of hard-work, two years in the making, of working with the Your Fund Surrey team and our staff here and our audience - to articulate what we needed the money for.

"We're just delighted because it means we can move forward our plans now to make building accessible and sustainable."

"We see ourselves as a community venue and a cultural hub for the county. Many people use our venue in the daytime and evenings for events and meetings... we have a whole host of arts engagement activities that we support and run here."
