We're being told people in Surrey are having more money worries than ever.

This comes as its revealed 47% of residents have already had to crack open their savings just to make ends meet.

This is according to survey data taken from a Opinium survey of 2,000 people in October 2023.

Local Economist at the University of Surrey Dr Luciano Rispoli said:

"I'm not shocked by this number, the cost of living has gone up so in real terms people could afford less - your purchasing power is down.

"If you want to keep your standard of living the same, you find yourself squeezed.

"The wages have not kept up with inflation so people have felt the squeeze in real terms.

"If this continues, people will run out of their savings.

"When you've run out of the savings, what's the next thing you're going to do? You're going to pile up debt on credit cards, taking our loans just to maintain your standard of living."
