Ahead of the festive season, both Surrey and Hampshire police forces are reminding us of the illegal use of e-scooters.

Surrey Police are urging us NOT to buy them as Christmas presents - while Hampshire Constabulary has put out a video explaining that privately owned ones cannot be used in any public spaces, including on roads and footpaths.

The penalties include the scooter being seized, as well as penalty points on your licence and a fine.

E-scooters can only be used on privately-owned land - with the owner's permission.

Currently rental scooters can be used on public roads in areas trialling the scheme - but none of those are in Surrey and Hampshire.
