Surrey Police Recruiting for Special Constables
Applications are currently open for Special Constables within Surrey Police.
There are currently over 150 Special Constables within the force, who volunteer within the force.
They volunteer their time to support policing teams across the county.
Surrey’s Special Constables have the same powers in law, (including the power of arrest) and are issued with the same uniform and kit as regular paid officers. They are based at the same police stations and provide a minimum of 16 operational hours per month.
Special Constables come from many different backgrounds and walks of life and form a vital link between their community and our force.
In general Specials carry out 'mainstream policing' but the opportunities for more experienced constables to join specialist teams are also available.
Helen Hartley, Head of Volunteering at Surrey Police, said, "They provide really great support to policing teams, they can be deployed alongside our regular policing officers.
"Some of them once they've reached independent patrol status can also go out and patrol on their own.
"The great thing about our Special Constabulary is obviously they are members of Surrey's communities so we are building that bridge between the police and the communities by having volunteers involved in this capacity.
"It's a really unique and rewarding volunteer opportunity, I would say it's probably like no other volunteer role you can undertake."
