A Surrey Police officer's shift took an unusual turn earlier this month when he helped deliver a baby in a car park.

Two weeks ago (6 January) PC Dan Lomas was at Frimley Park Hospital dealing with another matter when he heard the cries for help coming from the car park.

Once he alerted hospital staff and returned to the parents it became clear that the baby was not going to wait and ran back to tell the doctors that the baby had arrived in the car park.

Baby Josephine was born safely weighing a healthy 8lb.

Proud parents Kelly and Dave from Farnborough got in touch with their friend PC Roxy Hudson as they wanted to find out who it was that helped them and pass on their thanks for his quick actions and support.

Kelly says they have been overwhelmed with congratulations and lovely comments:

"Josephine will definitely have a story to tell when she’s older!

"When I was wheeled in to the Mulberry Suite there were staff ready and waiting for us and they were so welcoming.

"We received fantastic care from each and every person we met that morning.

“Thank you again to Dan for his reassurance and quick thinking”
