Police in Surrey have said say they have had several reports of a scam which sees fraudsters impersonating people's loved ones on WhatsApp.

People are reportedly getting messages from an unknown number, claiming to be from sons and daughters who have damaged, lost or had their phone stolen.

According to officers, the messages request to borrow money from the victim.

If this happens to you, first call the person on a known contact number to make sure they're in genuine need.

Another way of checking if the person contacting he is who they say they are is to ask them to send a voice note.

Anybody who comes across the scam is asked to report it to Action Fraud.
