Surrey Police Chief Constable honours the Queen
He's spoken out following her death
The Chief Constable of Surrey Police has paid tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II.
Union Flags continue to be flown at half-mast on police buildings during this time of national mourning.
Chief Constable Gavin Stephens said:
“Our sincere and heartfelt condolences go to the Royal Family following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This is a hugely significant moment in our nation’s history which will be marked across the country and around the world.
“For many in our communities, her loss will be keenly felt as the Queen has been a constant figurehead and a reassuring presence during times of uncertainty and change throughout our lives.
“She has been a steadfast guide through momentous world events. In our uniformed service we attest that we 'will well and truly serve the Queen'. More than this, it has been my experience that all members of our policing family are in some way driven by an obligation to keep the Queen's peace and do good for others.
“The very presence of our Queen has provided an understanding that in choosing the police service, we are serving our communities with a higher purpose. It is unlike any other contract, or arrangement, it is our duty.”
Her Majesty passed away peacefully at Balmoral last Thursday (8 September) at the age of 96.
