A man from Surrey has been sentenced over antisemitic social media posts.
5\8 year old Peter Kandalaft of Bourneside Road in Addlestone was sentenced to 8 weeks in prison suspended for 12 months.
He is also banned from using social media for 12 months and must complete 45 days worth of rehabilitation.
Kandalaft had pleaded guilty to malicious communications at a previous hearing in July.
In December last year, Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) was made aware by a charity of a number of concerning posts made on an X (formerly Twitter) account online.
By the time they received this information, the account had been suspended by X.
Officers from CTPSE executed a warrant in the early hours of 11 January and Kandalaft was arrested and charged.
Head of Counter Terrorism Policing South East, Detective Chief Superintendent Olly Wright, said: “This case featured a number of horrifying posts on social media which were violently anti-Semitic in their nature.
“In police interview Kandalaft initially maintained his email account was not linked to his social media handle, suggesting he may have been hacked. However following extensive work by officers, evidence was found to attribute it to him. Due to the strength of evidence against him, Kandalaft admitted his guilt and has now been sentenced.
“If you see anything online which concerns you, please report this to police. As this case demonstrates, we will take reports seriously and take robust action to keep our communities safe.”
