Covid marshals and ambassadors are being deployed in Surrey Heath from this month, with funding provided by the Government.

The borough council is using them for different roles - with ambassadors providing advice and support, and marshals checking to ensure compliance with Covid rules.

Ambassadors will be in Camberley town centre from mid-November during peak times - Monday - Fri 11:30am - 3pm, and on Saturdays 10am - 4pm.

They will work with the council's Economic Development team as well as Collectively Camberley, The Square and The Atrium to give confidence to shoppers and businesses that Camberley is Covid safe.

They will also help shoppers with things like directions, and where to buy masks.

Meanwhile, marshals will be on duty from Tuesday 3 November, throughout the borough, and will be checking that Covid rules are being followed by the public and local businesses, such as the wearing of face coverings in indoor public spaces.

They will also check things such as hospitality firms not recording customers' details, or seating them on tables larger than six.

The borough council says they will be carrying ID, and will be wearing the councils logo.

The marshals will work closely with other agencies and stakeholders including the police, Covid ambassadors and Collectively Camberley.

Any non-compliance with Covid regulations will be reported to the police and Environmental Health where appropriate.
