Surrey Headteacher takes on daring camping challenge for local charity
Andrew Fisher from Frensham Heights School is hoping to raise 5000 pounds for Surrey-based cancer charity The Fountain Centre
A Surrey Headteacher's taking a daring approach to charity fundraising this week - which will involve camping 10 metres off the ground at his school.
By doing this, Andrew Fisher from Frensham Heights School is hoping to raise £5000 for Surrey-based cancer charity The Fountain Centre.
The charity provides emotional and holistic support, information and signposting, both online and face to face cancer patients and their families.
Mr Fisher will be doing a 5-day camping challenge, where he will sleep in a different unusual place every night on his school campus this week.
He will be relying on donor’s generosity to get him through a week of winter camping, going in with nothing but the clothes on his back.
As the challenge goes on, as donations come in, Andrew will be given more luxuries - including a sleeping bag and a stove.
Andrew Fisher told us:
"This afternoon, I'm starting with the clothes I'm standing up in and as the donations come in, I start to get given my tent, sleeping bag, sleeping bag, my stove.
"So I'm hoping that donations come in to make my night more comfortable!
"I want to raise the profile of the Fountain Centre both within my community and wider if possible.
"Quite a few colleagues in my school have used the services of the Fountain Centre, so that feels really powerful for me to support them through charitable work.
"I'm really hoping it doesn't rain - but what I'm looking forward to most is on Thursday night where I'm on a suspended platform below our high ropes course.
"I'll be a good 10 metres in the air, literally hanging mid air on the suspended platform for the night.
