Surrey's Chief Fire Officer has been appointed to a national role.

Alongside being the Chief Fire Officer for this county, Dan Quin will assume extra responsibilities as the National Fire Chiefs Council's road safety and road rescue lead.

Dan was appointed as Surrey's Chief Fire Officer in October 2022, and is also the Vice-Chair of the United Kingdom Rescue Organisation. He will take on the new role alongside his current job as Chief Fire Officer.

"I'm really proud and privileged to take on the role."

He has 23 years of experience in the fire service, starting within Surrey.

Dan said that "I'm really proud and privileged to take on the role" and that his children were "elated" when he told them the news.

He also explained why the role is so crucial.

"It's a really important role. It's one that I know will definitely lead to a coordinated approach... and will be pivotal to saving lives on our roads."

Dan hopes that his specialism will help in the role.

"What I hope to bring to this role is the specialism in post-crash rescue, post crash response. I know that the only way that we're going to have a positive impact to reducing individuals that are killed and seriously injured in road traffic collisions overall, is by doing so in partnership."
