Surrey Fire and Rescue Service issues winter advice
They are asking people to be safe when lighting candles.
This festive season Surrey Fire and Rescue Service are issuing winter advice to help keep residents and households safe.
They've asked people to be careful when lighting candles at home, and to not leave them unattended.
Other advice for candle use is to extinguish them before leaving the room, and to keep them on a stable and heat resistant service.
Marli Holland is a Rural Affairs Officer for the service, she told Greatest Hits Radio why candle use is becoming more popular, "People are trying to keep their homes warm at the minute, and obviously some people are struggling.
"The use of candles are becoming more popular, so if you are using those then make sure you're watching them all the time, don't leave them unattended."
Surrey Fire and Rescue Service has also issued messaging about protecting road users whilst we experience more cold and icy weather.
The roads are often busier between Christmas and New Year, and this can lead to more road traffic collisions and serious crashes.
Marli said "Take extra care when you're on the roads, think, do I need to take this journey, and give yourself some extra time for the journey as well, you don't want to be rushing when you're on the roads.
"Drive much slower, leave plenty of space to break, and never drive outside of your comfort limits."
In case of further icy weather, the service is advising people to make sure their cars are de-iced properly before leaving their homes. and to give extra consideration to wingmirrors.
Surrey Police can issue a £50 fine for obstructed vision.
