Surrey County Council is calling on the government to prioritise the vaccination of teachers "so that their safety can be protected and promoted."

The authority said it would help get children back in the classroom earlier and would avoid disruption to those still receiving face-to-face teaching.

It is feared some schools, colleges and early years settings in the county looking after vulnerable pupils and children of key workers may be affected by staff shortages.

On its website, SCC said it wants to thank school staff for their hard work this year in preparing for a return to classrooms.
