Whilst we all see a pothole on our drives every now and then, the reality for those who register a damage claim for their vehicle have seen a grand total paid out across Britain.
Over the last four years, motorists across Britain have received almost 13 million pounds in compensation for pothole related damage to their vehicles, according to a new study.
The WhatCar? investigation saw a grand total of £12,991,216.81 paid out, and Surrey County Council ranked third for the amount to paid out.
In the last four years, Surrey County Council have paid out £608,284 in compensation, which was for 893 successful claims.
However, the study also found that there has only been a 25.7% success rate in the last four years, with 37,366 motorists having made successful claims.
Highways England has paid the largest amount in compensation, followed by Lancashire County Council.
From the findings, five authorities and councils were found to have paid out more than half a million pounds in compensation, Surrey County Council included.
In the past four years Lincolnshire County Council, Lancashire County Council, Staffordshire County Council and Stoke-on-Trent Town Hall also paid out over half a million pounds.
Despite the amount of claims that have been successful, the study from WhatCar? found that despite two-thirds of people surveyed did know they could claim from their local road authority for damages, only 10.2% had completed a claim.
