Shooting Star Childrens' Hospices to host Sunrise Walk in Guildford
Last year's event was cancelled last year due to the pandemic
Local children’s hospice charity Shooting Star Children’s Hospices is hosting its annual flagship event, the Sunrise Walk, in Guilford next month.
The walk on the 17 October begins at sunrise from the University of Law, just up the road from their Guildford branch, Christopher’s.
Last year's event was cancelled due to the pandemic, and a virtual event held instead.
The charity is hoping to reach a target of £74,000 to go towards supporting babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families across Surrey and London.
Walkers can follow either the 10km or 20km trail through part of the North Downs Way, Loseley Park and St Martha’s on the Hill.
Alexa Dizon, Head of Challenge Events at Shooting Star Children’s Hospices said: "Sadly, like many other charity’s we’ve been unable to hold our own in person events for the last 18 months.
"Events are a huge source of income for us, and our supporters have stepped up during this time and joined us to take part virtually which has been amazing!
"However, what makes our Sunrise Walk events so very special is being able to bring people together.
"With participants walking in memory and celebration of loved ones and in support of their local children’s hospice charity – it’s a truly unique atmosphere and experience and we simply can’t wait to welcome everyone back in person!
"Also a huge thank you to Charles Stanley for their support of this year’s Sunrise Walk t-shirts.”
Entry fees range from £5 for a child and £20 - £25 for an adult, dependent on the chosen route.
