Surrey art auction raising money for research into cancer treatments ends tomorrow
They are trying to fundraise enough money to get a new machine for the University of Surrey's immunology department
Surrey residents are being invited to tick off another present on their Christmas shopping lists by bidding for artwork in a cancer charity auction.
Local organisation Topic of Cancer are running this event to raise funds to support cancer immunotherapy research at the University of Surrey.
They are hoping the auction money will give them another boost towards reaching their fundraising target of £120,000.
This is the amount of money they need to buy the cancer department a Leica Bond RX Fully Automated Research Stainer - a machine that would drastically speed up the process of their research.
The fundraising team have already raised £40,000 and are hoping to reach £50,000 by the end of tomorrow when the bidding closes.
On offer at the auction are 47 pieces of art, several of which have been donated by Belgravia Gallery Surrey Hills.
Bidding for each of the pieces has started at £50.
Anne Powell-Evans, the Chair of Topic of Cancer, told us why raising money is important to her.
She said: "We're all touched my cancer. Who of us does have someone in their family, a family, friend or neighbour who doesn't have cancer?
"I've got cancer and my husband's got cancer - so this research is just something we've got to concentrate on and help the research team with.
"The team have no other source of funding so its vitally important that we continue to support them continue to make huge strides forward in melanoma and bladder cancer."
