Surrey, apart from from Waverley, to enter tier four ahead of Christmas
It means there will be no mixing over Christmas
Last updated 19th Dec 2020
The Prime Minister has announced there will be no Christmas bubbles for people in Surrey, except Waverley, as London and the South East is to be moved the into Tier 4 rules - similar to the recent national lockdown.
Boris Johnson also said people elsewhere in the country can now only see other households on Christmas Day.
It's after a new strain of coronavirus was identified - that seems to spread more quickly than previous strains and has contributed to a rapid increase in infections in the region.
The new rules come into affect from tomorrow (20 December).
What are the tier four rules?
Non-essential shops, gyms, cinemas, hairdressers and bowling alleys will be forced to close for two weeks – while people will be restricted to meeting one other person from another household in an outdoor public space.
Under the new “stay at home” order – covering around a third of the population of England – people in Tier 4 will be told they should not stay away from home overnight and people from outside will be advised not to visit Tier 4 areas.
