Hampshire Constabulary says it is discouraging people from trick or treating in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The force also warned against people having parties that break the current social distancing rules set out by the Government.

In a statement officers added: “It is important that whilst celebrating we remember to stick to the rule of six and don’t forget about Covid-19.

“Neighbourhood officers will be on patrol in the evenings in your area to tackle any anti-social behaviour and breaches of the Covid-19 guidelines.

“As we increase our patrols, please remember that this is an extremely busy time for officers and call takers in the control room. We are asking our communities to think before you call 999 or 101.”

Meanwhile, Surrey Police also urged people to “be responsible” and asked those who do choose to go out to take precautions.

“That means observing social distancing with people outside your household, standing well back when knocking on any doors and always keeping your hands clean using sanitiser,” the force said.

“While we know some people see Halloween as an opportunity to have fun and enjoy themselves, it can be a frightening time for others, especially those who are vulnerable.”
