New data shows that adults in Surrey have never been more active, with some statistics significantly higher than the national average.

Figures from Sports England found that just under 7 out of 10 adults, over the age of 16, are doing the recommended 150 minutes of physical activity a week.

This is a 3.1% increase on last year and beats the previous pre-pandemic high of 69%

The Active Lives survey also shows that the number of adults from Surrey classed as inactive has also drop to its lowest ever level, at just 19.5%.

"But now we're back on track which is incredibly positive."

England's activity level is around 63.1%.

At a borough and district level, Elmbridge was found to be the most active, with 74.9% of people being active. This was closely followed by Tandridge at 74.1% and Mole Valley at 73.5%.

Elizabeth Duggan, managing director of Active Surrey, said: "We've seen that Surrey is now the second most active county and also the second least inactive county. So we're doing really well on both counts and it's an incredibly positive trend."

"There's a bit of a misnomer that the pandemic was a time when we all became really active and we were walking and cycling every day - because actually physical activities levels during the pandemic dropped to their lowest on record, and it's taken us a real period of time to get out of that period. But now we're back on track which is incredibly positive."
