Energy bills are rising, food prices are rising leaving some people around Surrey and East Hampshire feeling the pinch and are having less money leftover at the end of the month.

Others are being forced to choose from whether to eat or heat their homes.

Chantal Baker is an accountant from Caterham in Surrey, and she’s given her advice on what people could do to best manage their money.

She said: “Sit at home and almost devise your menu for your week so if you say on Monday, I’m going to cook Spaghetti Bolognese then you’ll know exactly what ingredients to buy to be able to make that.

“It might be cheaper to get a takeaway directly from the restaurant itself rather than using one of the apps, obviously nobody wants to give up everything because everyone has to have a life and carry-on living.

“Depending on where you live you might want to consider putting up your car parking space for rent so if you live in a town, you live in a station, if you live near an airport or a big venue.

“Some people find that with some of their hobbies they’re now able to start selling things especially coming up to Christmas so people might make their own Christmas cards, Christmas gift bags and things and start selling them.”
