A number of people in Surrey have had their coronavirus vaccination appointments cancelled.

It affected those who were due to receive the jab at St Christopher’s Church in Haslemere this week.

NHS Surrey Heartlands Clinical Commissioning Group has apologised for any inconvenience caused to residents and said the circumstances were 'out of their control':

"We have had to postpone vaccine appointments for the over 80s cohort that were due to take place at St Christopher’s Church this week.

"We apologise that this situation will have caused inconvenience for many and we have been in direct contact with those involved to inform them.

"We are now working at pace to reschedule appointments for this priority group, as outlined in the national programme guidance and will be back in contact with individuals in the next few days to hopefully reschedule appointments for next week."

Some residents contacted South West Surrey MP Jeremy Hunt to voice their concerns.

In a post on Facebook Mr Hunt said the cancellations were down to a logistical issue and he thanked the NHS for their work in rolling out the vaccine:

"I have been in touch with the Director of the local CCG, Dr Claire Fuller.

"Dr Fuller explained that they have had to make these cancellations because of a logistical issue.

"If your appointment has been cancelled, your GP surgery will contact you within the next 7 to 10 days to re-book your appointment.

"These appointments will also be administered at St Christopher’s Church.

"The NHS is doing an incredible job locally rolling out the biggest vaccine programme in NHS history.

"So, I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr Claire Fuller and her excellent team who are going above and beyond in getting this vaccine rolled out as quickly as possible."
