Traffic restrictions that were put in place in Hampshire to help with social distancing will soon be removed.

For the last year, many roads have been closed to vehicles and on-street parking suspended to give pedestrians more space as we returned to local shops and restaurants,

The County Council says it will take around three weeks to take down the 42 emergency travel schemes.

The removal will start on 19 July which is the start of Step 4 of the Government’s COVID-19 roadmap.

Councillor Russell Oppenheimer who made the decision as the County Council’s Executive Member for Highway Operations said:

“The emergency schemes were introduced during the first coronavirus lockdown to support people to social distance under national emergency powers – and provide people with confidence that it was safe to go back to shops and cafes.

"However, as the Government looks to lift the restrictions completely, later this summer, these social distancing measures no longer need to be in place."
