Six men from Surrey arrested in connection with illegal poaching

Catapults and ball bearings were recovered from a vehicle on Thursday

Seven men have been arrested in connection with reports of illegal poaching in Clanfield, six of whom are from Surrey.

Police received reports of seven men with five dogs on private land at Scotland Farm, just after 11am on Thursday (20th January).

A search of two nearby vehicles uncovered catapults and ball bearings, as well as blood and pheasant feathers.

Seven men were arrested at the scene:

  • A 26-year-old man from Hook in Hampshire has been arrested on suspicion of participating in a hare coursing event
  • A 27-year-old man from Godstone in Surrey has been arrested on suspicion of daytime trespass in pursuit of game – poaching
  • A 26-year-old man from Redhill in Surrey has been arrested on suspicion of daytime trespass in pursuit of game – poaching
  • A 22-year-old man from Redhill in Surrey has been arrested on suspicion of daytime trespass in pursuit of game – poaching
  • A 30-year-old man from Godstone in Surrey has been arrested on suspicion of daytime trespass in pursuit of game – poaching
  • A 25-year-old man from Bookham in Surrey has been arrested on suspicion of participating in a hare coursing event
  • A 20-year-old man from Leatherhead in Surrey has been arrested on suspicion of participating a hare coursing event

All seven men were questioned by officers and released under investigation pending further police enquiries.
