The charity is focusing on raising vital funds after a difficult year

Surrey-base charity Shooting Star Children's Hospices are showcasing the care and support they provide as part of Children's Hospice Awareness week.

Their sites in Guildford and Hampton care for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families.

Like many charities that rely on supporters’ generosity to keep the service running, last year the pandemic saw all fundraising grind to a halt overnight.

Despite having to temporarily close one of their hospices they continued to work out of Guildford's Christopher House providing support to those who needed it, alongside launching a virtual hospice, an online hub and a family support line to ensure families had access to support, advice and information when it was most needed.

Chief Executive Nigel Harding told Greatest Hits Radio why the service they provide is so important:

"We offer a lifeline to families providing not only specialist care for the babies, children and young adults with life limiting conditions, but bespoke services for the whole families whether that's mums and dads, step mums, step dads, grandparents. We're there for absolutely everybody."

Thanks to the easing of restrictions across the UK, fundraising events are starting up again including the return of the charity's popular Sunrise Walks for 2021.

People can support the charity by visiting the website for fundraising ideas or by sharing the charity's posts on social media.

Children's Hospice Awareness Week is running from the 21st - 27th June 2021.
