Royal Surrey Chefs win national award

Manuela Miccoli, and Alejandro Bedoya Hernandez defeated seven other finalists in a gruelling five day competition.

Two cooks who work at the Royal Surrey in Guildford have been crowned winners of the NHS Chef of the Year Award.

Manuela Miccoli, and Alejandro Bedoya Hernandez defeated seven other finalists in a gruelling five day competition.

Their winning meals included a starter of Venison Bao Buns with Blackberry BBQ Sauce, Celeriac and Apple Slaw, followed by a main of Gnocchi with Hake, Granola and Tomato Sauce

Their meals included a Lentil Patty, Roast Potato, Celeriac Fondant and Mushroom Gravy, completed with a Tiramisu dessert.

Manuela told us how she's feeling after their victory...

"It was really unexpected... I'm feeling very happy, very proud."

“Winning this award is a dream come true. We worked so hard to achieve this. It was really tough on the day, but I was so glad to be a in team with Alejandro. We have a joint passion for food and I am so pleased that we were able to show this on the day.”

Alejandro said "On the fifth We were excellent. The judges saw that, that's kind of why our dishes turned out to be excellent for them. We always had a story behind it that we combined from both our backgrounds."
